Carlos Alcaraz of Spain won his first Wimbledon title on Sunday, coming back from one set down to defeat 23-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic of Serbia 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

Alcaraz, 20, will remain as world number one with his second Grand Slam victory. Meanwhile, Djokovic, 36, is denied the hope of leveling the all-time title record (24) held by Australia's Margaret Court and the record of eight titles at the grass-court event held by Swiss Roger Federer.

Both players showed their all-around skills and mental tenacity through a battle of four hours and 42 minutes, but the Spaniard held his nerve better in the decider and the victory when Djokovic buried a forehand in the net.

"He's got basically the best of all three worlds. He's got this Spanish bull mentality, fighting spirit and incredible defense that we've seen with Rafa. I think he's got some nice sliding backhands, some similarities with my backhands," said Djokovic after the match.

"He is a complete player," he added.
