Covering an area of over 27,000 square kilometers, the Giant Panda National Park on the borders of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces is home to 1,340 wild pandas, about 70 percent of China's total. Not only are the giant pandas are well protected in the park, countless creatures which share the habitat with them also gain a better living environment. Rare animals such as golden snub-nosed monkeys and takins also thrive in the area.
In 2017, China started piloting the giant panda park. In 2021, the country officially designated the first group of five national parks, including the Giant Panda National Park.
To better protect wild pandas, the national park has been divided into core protection areas and general control areas. Human activities are prohibited in the core protection areas and limited in the latter areas. Now, animals and plants thrive in the park thanks to protection efforts from all walks of life.
