Russia has halted its participation in the Black Sea grain export deal, the Kremlin said on Monday.

The deal, brokered by the United Nations and Türkiye last July, aimed to alleviate a global food crisis by allowing Ukrainian grain blocked by the Russia-Ukraine conflict to be safely exported.

It had been extended several times but was due to expire on Monday. Russia had been saying for months that conditions for its extension had not been fulfilled.

According to Russian media, Russia has officially notified Türkiye, Ukraine and the United Nations that it is against extending the Black Sea grain export deal, citing Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on Monday.

The Kremlin also noted that the halting of the grain deal had nothing to do with the Crimean bridge attack.

Russia on Monday accused Ukraine of attacking the Kerch Bridge in Crimea overnight with maritime drones, killing two people. Ukraine has not yet responded to the accusation.
