A new dance drama called "Poet Dongpo" marks the works by famous poet Su Dongpo, one of the most iconic figures in all of Chinese history. It explores themes from classical Chinese philosophy and aesthetics through a contemporary lens.
Su Dongpo, also known as Su Shi, is one of the most important cultural figures in Chinese history. Scholars say he mastered nearly all the major literary and artistic forms of the time, including regulated verse, the "ci" poetry from the Song Dynasty (960-1279), prose poetry, calligraphy and painting.
You Yang meets the artists behind the show in Beijing, including internationally renowned choreographer and visual artist, Shen Wei, who also created one of the opening segments for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Ceremony.
