The International Broadcasting Center (IBC) for the 31st World University Games in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, was launched on Tuesday. Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group (CMG), attended the launching ceremony.

"The Chengdu Universiade is the first major comprehensive sports games since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the first international comprehensive sports games since China's victory of battling COVID-19, and the first global comprehensive sports games in southwest China," Shen said in his speech.

"The Chengdu Universiade is of far-reaching significance and draws attention both within China and around the whole world. Therefore, it is a great responsibility to broadcast the games," Shen added.

Shen pointed out that the IBC is like the "home venue" for media during the Universiade and will provide quality services to licensed broadcasters. CMG has assembled the best production team for the operation of the IBC. It will deepen the implementation of the concept of combining ideology, art and technology to make the Chengdu Universiade an international sports gathering of Chinese characteristics, flavor of the times and the energetic bearing of the young generation. The world will have special memories of Chengdu after the games.

Zheng Li, director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Provincial Committee of Sichuan, stressed that both publicity and international broadcasting of the Chengdu Universiade are integral to hosting a simple, splendid and safe edition of university games. CMG has been playing an important role in supporting the publicity of the Universiade and the construction of the IBC.

In another 10 days, the flame for the 31st World University Games will be lit at the Dongan Lake Sports Park. Zheng believes that CMG, as the most influential sports broadcasting platform, will produce the first-rate broadcasting and reporting of the Universiade to the world and generate a trustworthy, delightful and respectable image of China to the rest of the world.

The IBC is where the television and radio signals for the Chengdu Universiade are assembled, produced and distributed to the 20 international and 35 domestic licensed broadcasters. It will enter 24-hour operation from July 25. Nearly 3,000 journalists will work here to report the games.

CMG has sent a team of 2,500 people to cover the reporting and broadcasting services of the Universiade.
