China has made achievements in internet regulation by launching efforts to effectively regulate online behavior and enhancing international exchanges and cooperation in cyberspace, according to a report on internet civilization development. 

The "China Internet Civilization Development Report 2023," which was released on Tuesday at the ongoing 2023 China Internet Civilization Conference in southeast China's Xiamen City, said a comprehensive administrative system for cyberspace has been established in the country.

Mechanisms to report and deal with spreading rumors online have continuously been improved, providing people with a healthy environment in cyberspace, said the report.

Over the past years, China has launched a series of special campaigns focusing on enhancing the governance of algorithm abuse, online fraud and other illegal online activities.

For example, a special campaign named "Operation Qinglang" was launched over the past few years with a series of activities to create a healthier internet ecosystem in China. 

Most recently, China's top public security and cybersecurity authorities launched a campaign to combat online rumors from July 15 to 21. It has already punished 373 accounts for spreading false information targeting China's stock market and social security policies.

More laws and regulations on the internet will be drafted to support the administration of cyberspace, said Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, during his keynote speech at the conference.

The two-day conference attracted approximately 800 people, including government officials, representatives from internet companies and social organizations, experts and netizens.
