The National Conference on Ecological and Environmental Protection was held in Beijing from Monday to Tuesday. At the conference, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that we should support high-quality development with a high-quality ecological environment, and accelerate the advancement of modernization featuring harmony between humanity and nature.
According to a series of surveys conducted by CGTN, nearly 90 percent (88.7 percent) of global respondents highly praised China's achievements in ecological and environmental protection, as well as its policies and propositions on environmental governance and green development.
Preserve beautiful idyllic scenery for people
At the conference, Xi spoke highly of China's environmental achievements in the past decade, pointing out that "the achievements in ecological conservation in the new era have impressed the world and become a significant symbol of the historic achievements and changes the Party and the country have made in pursuit of its cause."
In fact, China is making good on its promise to "preserve a beautiful idyllic scenery for people."
In the survey, 88.7 percent of global respondents hailed China's achievements in environmental protection over the past decade.
As the country's economic and social progress has entered a phase of ever-accelerating green and low-carbon high-quality development, China will exercise better control over the amount and intensity of energy consumption, and transition gradually toward controlling both the amount and intensity of carbon emissions.
It should be pointed out that China will resolutely attain the dual goals, but the country must make the decisions on its own when it comes to the path, methods, pace and intensity to achieve them. No one should expect to exert influence on China.
Praising China's achievements, 81.99 percent of survey respondents believe that the world's largest developing country has made important contributions to the world in energy conservation and emission reduction.

Support high-quality development with a high-quality ecological environment
The conference made it clear that we should support high-quality development with a high-quality ecological environment. High-level environmental protection should help China continuously create new driving forces and new strengths for development, and commit itself to building a green, low-carbon and circular economy.
In this way the country will effectively reduce resource and environmental costs, and continuously boost the potential and sustainability of its development.
Over the past decade, while China's ecological and environmental quality has significantly improved, its economic aggregate has soared to 120 trillion yuan (around $17 trillion), and its per capita GDP has remained above $12,000 for two consecutive years.
In the survey, 92.6 percent of the global respondents highly agreed with China's development idea that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," adding that economic development cannot be at the expense of the environment.
In addition, 91.8 percent of the respondents believed that strengthening natural environmental protection will help improve high-quality economic and social development, and China has proved this with its actions.
