Housed by the National Art Museum of China, the work "Geese on Taihu Lake" by Chinese modern artist Wu Guanzhong is regarded as an iconic Chinese oil painting.
In 1974, Wu went to Suzhou in east China's Jiangsu Province for inspiration for his artworks. Amid the picturesque views at a lake, a playful and bustling flock of geese competing for food intrigued him. With fresh colors and lively brushstrokes, he captured the vibrant and rhythmic scene of the geese. The green and light-yellow blocks on the canvas, along with the scattered white clusters and red dots, create an abstract sense of beauty.
The cooking fire on the fishing boat and the clothes drying in the breeze not only become the highlights of the entire painting but also infuse the artwork with a sense of vitality and a breath of life.
