The world today is undergoing major changes unseen in a century, and a healthy China-U.S. relationship could inject more stability.
A significant majority (78.7 percent) of respondents to a new survey of global internet users conducted by CGTN believe that the healthy development of China-U.S. relations is critical to the improvement of global governance.
The percentage of respondents who hold the same opinion has increased by 2.6 percent points in the last five months, as internet users around the world strongly urge China and the U.S. to return to a path of rational and healthy development.
"China and the U.S. have some differences, but they also share many similarities and common goals," one respondent said. A total of 75.9 percent of respondents shared the same view, and believe the common interests of China and the U.S. outweigh their differences.
Some 78.7 percent of respondents believe friendship and cooperation between the two countries would contribute to improving global governance. Others say the most important issue is to maintain dialogue and communication, stating "good communication is the basis for maintaining a healthy relationship."
At present, the international configuration has undergone significant changes, and China-U.S. relations are once again at a crossroads. Up to 89.1 percent of respondents to the survey believe the development of China-U.S. relations should be based on mutual respect for each other's core interests. This figure represents a noteworthy increase from five months ago, with a rise of 28.5 percentage points. The majority of respondents agree that mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation are the right paths for China-U.S. relations.
In addition, 83.7 percent of respondents believe that China-U.S. relations are not a zero-sum game and 81.9 percent of respondents say that China and the U.S. should approach dialogues rationally and pragmatically, and more importantly, implement the results of communication in practical actions.
A majority (70.1 percent) of respondents believe that people in China and the U.S. should travel and communicate more to improve their understanding of one another, which could help the long-term development of the relationship between the two countries.
The survey was published on CGTN's English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian platforms, with nearly 60,000 users voting in 24 hours.
