Tens of thousands of Israelis marched for four days last week to protest a government plan to overhaul the country's judicial system. Enduring extreme heat, protesters waving Israeli flags walked from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, arriving at the Jerusalem parliament or Knesset building on July 22. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his partners have stressed that the reforms are necessary to limit the judicial system, which has become too powerful in recent decades. They also said the supreme court often intervenes in political issues that should be determined by the parliament.
