Eleven people died and four people survived after the roof of a middle school gymnasium collapsed on Sunday in Qiqihar, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.
All of the 15 people trapped have been pulled from the rubble, of which five did not have any vital signs and six died despite treatment.
Preliminary investigation found that construction workers illegally placed perlite on the roof of the gymnasium. The perlite soaked in water after rain and gained weight, causing the roof to cave in. Rescue operations have come to an end and an in-depth investigation is underway.
