Eleven people died after the roof of a school gymnasium collapsed Sunday in Qiqihar City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the local authorities confirmed on Monday.

There were 19 people in the 1,200-square-meter gymnasium at the No. 34 Middle School of Qiqihar in Longsha District when the incident occurred. Four people narrowly escaped as the roof caved in while the rubble trapped 15 people.

Rescue operations have concluded with all the trapped people, including four survivors, taken out of the rubble, the authorities said, adding that an investigation was underway.
