A wild giant panda invaded the territory of a herd of takins before being expelled by an angry takin at the Zhouzhi National Nature Reserve in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, shows a footage shared by volunteers working at the reserve.

The video shows the panda forging at the reserve in the Qinling Mountains and deliberately trespassing into the takin land.

The panda's actions alerted the takins. One of the leading takins roared, warning the giant panda to leave. After a brief standoff, the takin took the initiative to attack the invader. The panda then quickly retreated.

Experts said wild animals have a strong sense of territoriality. Once their territory is invaded by animals of the same species or those occupying similar ecological niches, they usually emit warning calls or directly attack to assert their sovereignty.

In recent years, wild animals such as takins, giant pandas, leopards and musk deer have frequently appeared at the Zhouzhi National Nature Reserve, indicating that the biodiversity of the nature reserve is increasing.
