Senior Chinese and Brazilian diplomats agreed to deepen strategic cooperation between the two countries during talks in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday.

As the largest developing countries in eastern and western hemispheres, China and Brazil share common strategic interests, Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, told Chief Advisor of the Presidency of Brazil Celso Luiz Nunes Amorim.

Wang is currently in the South African capital to attend the 13th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security from July 24 to 25. After the meeting, he will visit Nigeria, Kenya and Türkiye, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

China is willing to work with Brazil to deepen strategic mutual trust, expand strategic cooperation, strengthen the synergy between China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Brazil's reindustrialization strategy, and explore more common interests and cooperative growth points, making China-Brazil relations a model of solidarity and cooperation among emerging market countries and developing countries, said Wang.

Noting the BRICS mechanism has become the most representative platform for South-South cooperation and faces a historic opportunity for development and growth, Wang said China stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Brazil to jointly promote BRICS cooperation to meet the needs of the situation and the voices of all parties, further safeguarding the common interests of emerging market economies and developing countries, and effectively advancing a multi-polar world and the democratization of international relations.

Amorim said that China is an important strategic partner of Brazil and the all-round cooperation between the two countries is fruitful.

He said that Brazil is willing to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, intensify strategic communication and coordination, and deepen practical cooperation in various fields such as aviation, automotive, high-tech, green economy and climate change.

Brazil is also ready to enhance cooperation with China within the BRICS and other multilateral frameworks, jointly upholding multilateralism and safeguarding world peace, he added.
