Israeli troops killed three Palestinian militants who opened fire on them from a car near the occupied West Bank city of Nablus on Tuesday, Israel's defense minister and army said.
The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that three people had been killed in the incident.
Palestine TV showed footage of a military vehicle blocking access to the area of the incident, including an ambulance, as soldiers appeared to carry out an inspection.
Congratulating the army on Twitter, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the incident had taken place at Mount Gerizim, a Samaritan community overlooking Nablus.
Clashes in the West Bank have surged for over a year, with increased Israeli raids, Palestinian street attacks and settler rampages in Palestinian villages. Nablus and the nearby northern West Bank city of Jenin have seen especially intense clashes.
Violence linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict this year has killed at least 201 Palestinians, 27 Israelis, one Ukrainian and one Italian, according to an AFP tally compiled from official sources on both sides.
They include combatants and civilians on the Palestinian side and three members of the Arab minority on the Israeli side.
The West Bank is home to nearly three million Palestinians and around 490,000 Israelis who live in settlements considered illegal under international law.
