The torch design for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games was unveiled by the organizing committee on Tuesday, one day ahead of the one-year countdown for the Summer Games.

The torch is made of steel, 70 centimeters long and weighs about 1.5 kilograms. It's in champagne gold highlighting the three concepts of equality, peace and Paris in the design. The symmetrical shape is for equality, the slick surface for peace, and the undulating water motif in its lower body for the River Seine in Paris.

The torch is the work of French designer Mathieu Lehanneur and made by ArcelorMittal S.A., a Luxembourg-based multinational steel manufacturing corporation headquartered in Luxembourg City.

"We were looking for a strong message bearing in this case, of course, the message of peace and unity, but also a symbol of parity," Paris 2024 head of design Joachim Roncin said. "We had something in mind [that] it's not only about a shape, it's also about something – a message we want to share with the rest of the world."

"Such a project is a dream for a designer, because it's a project that combined everything – symbolic, technical – in one, for a big moment," Lehanneur added.

According to Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris Olympics Organizing Committee, a special event with selected athletes in attendance will happen on the River Seine on Wednesday to mark the one-year countdown for the Paris Olympics.
