The climate and soil in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region make it the perfect location for cultivating grapes – so much so that one-fifth of China's total grape output comes from the region. In fact, grapes are a pillar of the local economy. One company alone can produce over 1,000 tons of red wine annually and provides seasonal employment for 10,000 people.
