At least 16 civilians were killed on Tuesday in air and artillery strikes at a neighborhood in the city of Omdurman, west of Sudanese capital Khartoum, a resistance committee said.

The Ombada's Resistance Committee, a popular youth group, also said that there were other victims at Souk Libya, a local market in Omdurman, due to the strikes.

The humanitarian situation in Sudan has turned into a full catastrophe, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Sudan, said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Yet relief workers are not spared from the horrendous acts of violence and abuse," the UN official said, adding that at least 18 aid workers have been killed and many more injured since the start of the conflict in Sudan.
