Algeria has managed to contain the wildfires raging across its forests, the state TV reported on early Wednesday, citing the civil protection authorities.
A total of 97 wildfires swept across 16 provinces amid high temperatures in Algeria, claiming at least 34 lives, the Algerian interior ministry said on Monday.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune sent his condolences to the families of those killed, including 10 soldiers trapped by flames at Beni Ksila in Bejaia province, according to the defense ministry.
Severe heat waves have enveloped much of southern Europe and northern Africa.
