Concerns about radioactive elements in contaminated Fukushima wastewater
42:26

Since the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, a major concern of the international community has been how the nuclear-contaminated wastewater would be dealt with. On April 13, 2021, the Japanese government announced a plan to discharge it into the sea, insisting that the "ALPS" system it has installed at the site of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant is capable of purifying the contaminated wastewater. However, the wastewater is heavily contaminated with various nuclides, and widespread doubts have been expressed about the system's reliability.
