In a significant shift from decades of rapid growth, the Chinese economy is now placing greater emphasis on high-quality and sustainable development. Leslie Maasdorp, vice president and CFO of the New Development Bank (NDB), says the Chinese authorities are directing their efforts toward fostering inclusive growth and long-term stability, addressing disparities between rural and urban areas, and ensuring the sustainability of economic expansion. He adds that the NDB pledges to support this shift by investing in infrastructure projects to fuel growth, especially in western China, with 24 percent of its $35 billion portfolio dedicated to these initiatives.
