The 77th Regular Session of the United Nations Board of Auditors was held from Tuesday to Wednesday in New York and was presided over by Hou Kai, who holds the chairmanship of the board and also serves as China's auditor general.
The regular meeting deliberated and adopted 21 audit reports of relevant UN agencies and projects in the fiscal year of 2022 and made arrangements for the board's work in the second half of 2023.
During the two-day session, board members also met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and exchanged views on issues identified by auditors in the fiscal year 2022, as well as the current priorities and challenges facing the United Nations.
Noting that the UN plays an important role in promoting the noble cause of peace and the development of mankind, Hou said that a strong UN is required to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Hou added that he will continue to work with the other board members to concentrate on authenticity, compliance and efficiency in the auditing of budget and financial revenues and expenditures, and jointly promote the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Since assuming office as a board member in July 2020, China's auditor general has cooperated with other board members to jointly lead the implementation of the UN audit work.
Upholding the spirit of independence and professionalism, the Chinese audit team organized and carried out the audit of nearly 130 projects in areas including peacekeeping operations and fund reports, which played a positive and constructive role in promoting the UN to strengthen management, improve performance and transparency, strengthen accountability, deepen reform and improve governance.
