The 31st summer edition of FISU World University Games opens on July 28 in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province. The games will bring young athletes together from all over the globe, fostering international cooperation, and providing a platform for the athletes to showcase their talents while pursuing their dreams. This year's grand opening ceremony is themed "chasing your dreams in Chengdu".
One of the highlight of the performance is the unique face-changing stunt of Sichuan opera which wows audience at the opening ceremony. Face-changing or "Bian Lian" in Chinese is an ancient Chinese dramatic art that is part of the more general Sichuan opera. Performers wear vividly colored masks, typically depicting well known characters from the opera, which they change from one face to another almost instantaneously with the swipe of a fan, a movement of the head, or wave of the hand.
