Sichuan Brocade, also known as "Shu Brocade," has a history of over 2,000 years, flourishing first in the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD). It's an important part of Chinese culture. In 2006, the technique of Shu Brocade weaving was listed as part of China's national-level intangible cultural heritage. The medals awarded at this year's Chengdu FISU World University Games are also incorporating the art form in their design.
