China edged Haiti 1-0 in their second game in Group D in the FIFA Women's World Cup at Hindmarsh Stadium in Hindmarsh, Australia, on Friday, remaining hopeful of advancing to the Round of 16 in the tournament.

Wang Shuang scored the only goal in Friday's game as she shot the penalty kick into the bottom left corner of the goal in the 74th minute. Zhang Linyan created that penalty as she was breaking into the box from the right and tripped up by the defender. The referee first called Zhang offside, but then ruled that it was a penalty with the help of the video assistant referee (VAR).

China overcame a series of difficulties to secure this win. Their midfielder Zhang Rui was sent off the field with a red card after she committed a dangerous foul on Shirly Jeudy in the 29th minute. Manager Shui Qingxia had to replace Lou Jiahui, China's best offensive threat, with Zhang Xin, so they could stay solid in the midfield.

Haiti may not have the best skills, but their strength and speed make the team very dangerous in counterattack. Therefore, China didn't press forward much in the first half of Friday's game. They launched most of their offense via long passes and focused on the left wing, where Lou was. Meanwhile, though China only kept a few players in the front field, all of them worked hard to cut the ball from the opponents, trying to launch an attack on the spot quickly.

Haiti didn't get many opportunities on the offensive end in the first half, but they still shocked China into a cold sweat by scoring a goal in the 41st minute, though it was ruled offside.

Haiti grew much more aggressive in attacking from the second half of the game. For a while, they pressed China completely to their half of the field and continuously threatened China's goal. Zhang's attack was one of the few chances China had to go to the opponent's field. She took it and turned it into a penalty before Wang made it to score their team's first goal in the World Cup.

Haiti was given a penalty in the 92nd minute but the referee then canceled it after checking the VAR.

Friday's victory gave China three points, the same as Denmark, which lost to England 1-0 earlier in the day. China are currently third in the group because they lost to Denmark in their first game. China will play England in their final game on August 1 while Denmark face Haiti on the same day.
