The Mosuo people live in a picturesque region near Lugu Lake in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

They are known for their singing and dancing abilities, with the "jiacuo dance" being particularly popular. "Jiacuo" means "beautiful dance" in their language. It is a dance performed during joyous and beautiful occasions, expressing the elegance and beauty of the moment. The Mosuo dance is diverse, rich in content, and showcases distinctive Mosuo characteristics and strong ethnic features.

In June 2008, the "jiacuo dance" was approved to be included in the second batch of the national intangible cultural heritage list.
