Chinese President Xi Jinping inspected Hanzhong City, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, on Saturday.

The inspection by Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, came after he inspected southwest China's Sichuan Province and is on his way back to Beijing.

During his visit to Hanzhong Museum, Xi learned about the city's history, culture and its protection of cultural relics.

Cultural relics carry splendid civilization, inherit history and culture, and uphold national spirit, said Xi.

He highlighted the role of museums in protecting, inheriting, researching and displaying human civilizations, as well as expanding the international influence of Chinese culture.

Noting that the city had intangible cultural heritages that have long been renowned, Xi said it is necessary to develop special industries to better promote people's income and prosperity.

Walking outside the museum, Xi told the residents who warmly welcomed him there that he was pleased to see that the city is well organized and has made significant progress, as he had come to the city during the relief efforts in the aftermath of the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008.

During an inspection of a wetland park along the Hanjiang River in the city, Xi emphasized the importance of protecting the wetland resources of the river and its tributaries and promoting holistic conservation and systematic restoration of wetland ecosystems.
