Taiwan's pro-reunification Labor Party strongly condemned a U.S. House bill on Taiwan as "absurd and invalid," saying the bill was a twist and denial to the United Nations Resolution 2758, and demonstrated the U.S. despise of the UN and norms of international relations.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a bill, titled the "Taiwan International Solidarity Act." The act makes the argument that UN Resolution 2758, which recognized the People's Republic of China as the only legitimate government of China in 1971, does not apply to Taiwan.

"The resolution did not address the issue of representation of Taiwan and its people in the United Nations or any related organizations, nor did the resolution take a position on the relationship between the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Taiwan or include any statement pertaining to Taiwan's sovereignty," the bill stated.

The Labor Party said that the claim is attempting to undermine the one-China policy, and incite "Taiwan independence" separatism.

The party pointed out that the international order embodied in the UN was the result of World War II, and the liberation of Taiwan was an important part of the victory of the World anti-fascist alliance. It added that the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, as important parts of the post-war international system, agreed upon the surrender of all Japanese armed forces and the return of Taiwan to China.

"China's de jure and de facto recovery of sovereignty over Taiwan is beyond doubt," the party said.

The party continued that the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 didn't change China's status as a subject of international law, and China's sovereignty and inherent territories remained unchanged. Though due to the civil war and external interference, the two sides of the Taiwan Straits fell into a long-term political confrontation, China's sovereignty and territory have never been divided, and the status of both sides belonging to one China and Taiwan being part of China's territory has never changed, the party stressed.

The party slammed the U.S. House's statement that UN Resolution 2758 "did not address the issue of representation of Taiwan," saying the resolution, passed on October 25,1971, decided to "restore all its rights to the People's Republic of China," recognize the PRC as "the only lawful representatives of China to the United Nations," and expel "the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek."

The resolution was a recognition that China would henceforth be represented by the government in Beijing, the party said.

It called upon people on the island to have a clear understanding of the U.S. attempts to distort the UN resolution, saying it is trying to separate China, provoke a civil war between the two sides and use Taiwan to contain China.

"For the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, we should unite to resist the unreasonable disturbance of the U.S. House and refuse external interference in the Taiwan question," the party said, adding "Taiwan is not a pawn of hegemony, and the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits should be maintained by the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits."
