Beijing on Saturday evening issued a red alert, the most severe warning for rainstorms, as heavy rains brought by Typhoon Doksuri are expected to pound the Chinese capital and vast areas in north China.
Beijing has taken precautions to lessen the impact of heavy rainfall. Residents received text message warnings to stay indoors on Saturday night. Beijing Drainage Group has asked its 2,600 flood control personnel to stay on duty and has dispatched teams to check the drainage network and rainwater grates across the city.
On Sunday morning, the National Meteorological Center of China Meteorological Administration maintained a red alert for rainstorms.
