Four NBA players, Deandre Ayton and Eric Gordon of the Phoenix Suns, Buddy Hield of the Indiana Pacers and Kai Jones of the Charlotte Hornets have committed to playing for The Bahamas in the men's basketball qualifier games for the Paris Olympics to be held in 2024, according to Marc J. Spears of ESPN.
Ayton is the biggest star of the four. Despite the criticism he received for his underperformance in the playoffs last season, he still averaged 18 points and 10.1 rebounds at 58.9 percent from the field per game in the regular season. With his 2.11-meter height and 2.27-meter-wide wingspan, Ayton has the soft touch to continuously drain jumpers in the middle range instead of having to take tough attempts in the crowd under the hoop. As long as he doesn't need to play the biggest role on The Bahamas' roster, he can be an all-round finisher on the offensive end.

Hield has been one of the NBA's most productive 3-point shooters in the past five seasons. He made a total of 288 triples, the second-most of all players, at 42.5 percent, the ninth-highest in the league, during the 2022-23 campaign. Moreover, he took of a lot of his shots off the dribble, especially in transition, giving The Bahamas more offensive options.
Gordon, 34, is the oldest of the four. He is also the best slasher and perimeter defender of the four. Though he is only 1.9 meters tall, he is strong enough to switch up to guard the small for ward position. He scored 15.9 points, 3.1 triples at 42.3 percent per 36 minutes last season.

Jones is the youngest and the only one of the four that is still on his rookie contract. He didn't receive too much of playing time in the Hornets last season, but he has a solid 2.11-meter height, meaning that he can play backup for Ayton who, then, can take a breath on the bench.
"I'm excited to be back playing for Team Bahamas and to see how much the program has grown. Can't wait to play with my guys. It's truly a special experience to compete with teammates who are from where you're from, with Bahamas on your chest," Ayton told Andscape, formerly known as "The Undefeated" of ESPN.

The Bahamas have never qualified for the men's basketball event in the Olympic Games. They need to first beat Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Panama, Uruguay and the U.S. Virgin in the qualifiers in Santiago de Estero, Argentina, from August 14 to 20 to enter the next qualifying tournament where they will compete for an Olympic berth.
