While areas in China are still dealing with Typhoon Doksuri's destructive wake, forecasts warn that the sixth typhoon of the year, Khanun, is approaching and is set to strike China's densely populated coastal areas including Zhejiang and Fujian provinces this week.

Khanun has strengthened and turned into a super typhoon on the morning of July 31, 2023. It approached Japan's southwestern island of Okinawa on August 1, lashing the region with strong winds and high waves and forcing transportation to halt and stores to close. The storm hit power lines and knocked out electricity to more than 200,000 households on the morning of August 2.

As Khanun continues moving northwest at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour and is about to enter the East China Sea, the Central Meteorological Observatory of China renewed a blue typhoon alert this morning. Forecasts predict the typhoon might strengthen and then move to mid Zhejiang and north Fujian provinces in the following days.

Experts warn that the future path of Khanun is still unpredictable, therefore areas in eastern China should keep attention to the latest news and be ready for upcoming windy weather with excessive rainfall.
