Fresh from a dominant display at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, China's Olympic champion Zhang Yufei and rising sensation Qin Haiyang returned to their home country to sprinkle more stardust on Day 5 of the Chengdu Universiade.

Cheered on by a passionate crowd, Zhang, who left Fukuoka with five medals, set a new World University Games record after cruising to the women's 50-meter butterfly title in 25.20 seconds.

Qin, who just became the first swimmer in any stroke to win the 50m, 100m and 200m treble at a single world championship, came out on top in the men's 100m breaststroke after touching in 58.92.

"For me, there is no difference between the World Championships and the World University Games," said Qin. "I just want to try my best in each race I participate. I won't let the gold medals become my burden. I will regard each competition as a new challenge."

Qin's compatriot Liu Yaxin kept the momentum going when she won the 200m backstroke final in 2:08.18. "I was relaxed, and the crowd's support brought me confidence," beamed Liu after her dominant triumph.

Later in the day, the Chinese star swimmers capped off the night with another gold in the mixed medley relay as a team came from behind to create a new World University Games record in 3:44.02.

"Our swimming team has always been giving our best during these years, so we deserve this honor," Qin said. "We all performed remarkably well. Today's success is a testament to our team's unrelenting commitment to excellence and years of tireless effort."

Elsewhere, China's Song Jiayuan clinched gold in the women's shot put, while Xia Yuyu finished first in the 10,000m race on the opening day of the athletics event.

"This is my final appearance at the World University Games," said Xia during the awards ceremony. "This gold medal marks the perfect conclusion to my journey to the tournament."

China still lead the overall medal table at the Chengdu Universiade with 36 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals.
