China wishes relevant parties in Niger to settle differences peacefully through dialogue, restore normal order at an early date and uphold the stability and development of the nation, China's Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
"President Mohamed Bazoum is a friend of China. We hope that his personal safety is ensured and that relevant parties of Niger will bear in mind the fundamental interests of the nation and the people," the ministry said in a statement published on its website.
"We believe Niger and other countries in the region have the wisdom and capability to find a political solution to the current situation," it continued.
A recent coup in the African country saw the overthrow of the elected government of Mohamed Bazoum. Many countries have voiced concerns and urged the immediate release of Bazoum.
