Shuncheng Ancient Street was destroyed during the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. After victory in the war, the street was gradually rebuilt over time until it was eventually renamed Shuncheng Street in 1981.
The street houses the thousand-year-old Longshen Temple, the Gongchen Gate built during the Ming Dynasty, the centuries-old walls of the ancient Jiazhou town, and many other relics. What's more, the first cinema and photographic studio in the city were set up there. Shuncheng Ancient Street is a repository of the city's long history and for the memories of the local people passed down from generation to generation.
In 2016, the local authorities launched several phases of conservation and renovation work with the aim of protecting these relics and revamping the appearance of the street to create a more modern tourist spot.
After the refurbishment work, Shuncheng Street, Shanghe Street and Zhonghe Street were combined to form the Shangzhongshun Tourism and Leisure Block, covering an area of 37,000 square meters. Located near both Leshan Port and the Leshan Giant Buddha heritage site, Shangzhongshun was listed as one of China's national-level tourism and leisure blocks in 2023.

The walls of the ancient town of Jiazhou, which are mostly made of red sandstone, can be seen winding down from the peak of where the ancient town sits to the place where Minjiang and Dadu rivers meet respectively and form a shape like a Phoenix spreading its wings. Known as "Feng City" or the "Jiang City," the ancient town has witnessed the many historical changes that have taken place over the centuries in Leshan City.
