A delegation of ambassadors and diplomats from Asian, Latin American and African countries are concluding their trip to China's Xinjiang, praising the protection of cultural heritage, and challenging some of the reports in western media. Lu Sirui reports on their experiences.
During their visit to Xinjiang, the delegation explored the old town of Kashgar and the Id Kah Mosque, located some 1,500 kilometers southwest of Urumqi. The group said they were impressed by the vibrant tourism in the old town over the summer vacation. They were especially impressed to witness how the historic mosque is not only well preserved, but also equipped with modern facilities.
HECTOR DORBECKER Minister, Embassy of Mexico in Beijing "It's been quite amazing the visit the way that we have been able to understand and see the integration. How they cope with different ways of living and everyone lives in the community and the university is quite impressive."
The delegation also visited the Xinjiang Islamic Institute in Urumqi, where they learned about the protection and continuation of Islamic culture, as well as freedom of religion.
LUAMANUVAE MARINER Samoan Ambassador to China "What we've just seen here is first class facilities provided by the government to allow Muslims Muslims to study and to learn more not only about their religion, but also about the history and the culture of China. So this is very encouraging."
LU SIRUI Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region "The ambassadors are wrapping up their visits in Xinjiang. They also noted that that the various lies fabricated by certain Western media are completely inconsistent with the reality of Xinjiang. Lu Sirui, CGTN, Xinjiang."
