Manchester United have signed Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta, the "Red Devils" announced on Saturday.
"Rasmus Hojlund has joined Manchester United on a contract running until June 2028, with the option of a further year, subject to international clearance," United said in a statement.
Erik ten Hag, manager of United, has been very clear that he wanted to improve the club's offense since the summer transfer window began. Though Hojlund, 20, is not an experienced scorer that Ten Hag preferred, he is a very promising young man for United to land with 64 million pounds (about $81.6 million) guaranteed plus eight million pounds (about $10.2 million) of add-ons, according to ESPN.
Atalanta acquired Hojlund from Sturm Graz for 20 million euros in August 2022. He scored 10 goals and four assists in 32 games for the Italian club last season. Such performance already ranked second on United's scorers list, behind only Marcus Rashford (17 goals).

Poor offense was a major problem for United last season as they scored 58 goals in the Premier League, ranking seventh of all 20 teams. Only Aston Villas (51 goals) of the top seven had fewer goals than United. Even the eighth-ranking Tottenham Hotspur got 70 goals. The top two teams, Manchester City and Arsenal, scored 94 and 88 goals respectively.
"It is no secret that I have been a fan of this great club since I was a small boy, and I dreamed of walking out at Old Trafford as a Manchester United player," Hojlund said in the statement. "I am incredibly excited by this opportunity to turn that dream into a reality, and I am determined to repay the faith that the club has shown in me. It is still early in my career, but I know that I am ready to make this step up and play with this group of world-class players."
United completed multiple big signings during the summer window, including introducing goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan and midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea.

As the reigning Premier League champions and United's cross-town rivals, City didn't lie idle. They announced on Saturday the signing of center-back Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig. ESPN revealed that the transfer cost City 90 million euros (about $99.2 million) with no add-ons.
"Manchester City are delighted to confirm the signing of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal," City said in a statement. "The 21-year-old becomes the second signing of the summer transfer window ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, following in the footsteps of fellow Croatian international Mateo Kovacic."
"I have always dreamed of one day playing in England and to be doing so now with Manchester City – after the season they have just had – is a real honor for me," Gvardiol said in the statement. "Anyone who saw Manchester City play last season knows they are the best team in the world. To win the Treble says everything you need to know about the quality this team has."
