More than 20,000 people in Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province, have been relocated from flooded rural areas to safer places, as heavy rainfall continues to pound the northeastern province since Wednesday.

As of 8 a.m. on August 3, the local maximum rainfall in Wuchang City reached 205 mm. Due to the incessant rainfall, two large reservoirs among the 41 in Wuchang City have approached the flood limit water level, and one small reservoir has exceeded the flood limit water level. Wuchang authorities are closely monitoring the water levels in rivers and reservoirs to prepare for any further challenges that may arise. The floodwater releasing work is underway in three reservoirs in the city.

The evacuation efforts have been relentless, with rescue teams and volunteers working around the clock to ensure the safety of the affected population. Emergency shelters have been set up in various locations to accommodate those displaced by the floods. Presently, the city has prepared over 1200 rooms in 23 hotels and more than 10,000 beds in 27 schools for the relocated people. Additionally, ample daily necessities and medical supplies have been stocked up.
