Rescue operations are underway in Shulan City, northeast China's Jilin Province, after heavy downpours inundated swaths of farmland and destroyed infrastructure in some villages.
Affected by the remnants of Typhoon Doksuri, heavy rainfall began to hit the city from Thursday, with the average precipitation reaching 111.7 millimeters as of 3 p.m. on Friday.

The incessant heavy rains flooded some villages, damaging bridges and roads. Firefighters have been trying to locate trapped people and move them to safety.

Most villagers had been evacuated before the rainfall.
"We moved to the relocation site on Tuesday. Village officials arranged cars taking us here," said a resident from Xinkai Village, which was severely hit by floods.
Some 14,380 villagers in Shulan City have been relocated to safer areas. As of 7.30 p.m. on Friday, the rainfall had claimed one life and four others are still missing. Heavy rainfall is expected to gradually let up starting Saturday.
