After being in Wu's care for a week, the calf already regards him as family. Wu enjoys being needed, but can't help a sense of loss. In the backyard, Wu built a shed for the young gazelle. Years of experience have taught him that it will grow up and eventually return to nature to be with its kind. Keeping it at a proper distance is crucial for its future independence.

Wu, as the head of the protection station for Przewalski's gazelle in Qinghai Lake National Nature Reserve, has been devoted to conservation work for over 20 years.
