China welcomes the visit of the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and his delegation to China in autumn, which will make political preparations for the leaders' meeting through extensive and in-depth exchanges.
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and minister of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks on Sunday during a phone call with Borrell.
Borrell expressed his deep condolences over recent disasters in China caused by heavy rains and floods. Meanwhile, he stressed that the EU is firmly committed to developing good relations with China. He said that the EU's Global Gateway strategy and China's Belt and Road Initiative are not contradictory but complementary as both of them aim to promote global development.
Borrell added that he is looking forward to visiting China to conduct strategic dialogue as soon as possible, prepare for this year's EU-China Summit and push for further development of EU-China relations.
Wang welcomed Borrell and his delegation to visit China this autumn, saying he hopes China and the EU can conduct more dialogues and exchanges.
He noted that partnership is the most important feature of China-EU relations and China has always taken a positive attitude in promoting China-EU relations. China attaches great importance to the upcoming summit and expects the meeting will play a vital role in promoting China-EU relations and bilateral cooperation, Wang added.
The two sides also exchanged views on Ukraine, Niger and other regional and international issues of common concern.
