Writer Alai, who's particularly famous for his fiction, notably Red Poppies, claims that simply getting a book published is never his goal. To him, it's the process of writing that's important as, through it, he navigates the questions that arise in his mind. In his non-fiction work Zhandui, he gives voice to his thinking on ethnicity, society and the nation.
