During the sports event of Chengdu Universiade, over 2,400 new energy vehicles (NEVs) are used for transportation services. They are used for 90 percent of transportation from the Universiade Village to the central urban area, and all shuttles in the village run 100 percent on new energy.
A hydrogen-powered bus, a type of NEVs, can travel 450 kilometers on a single charge, with the average hydrogen fuel consumption per 100 kilometers measured at only 4 kilograms. A fleet of 80 buses of this kind is put into use as commuting vehicles for athletes and staff at the Universiade.
