Young drummers from Ying Wa Primary School in Hong Kong and Xijie Primary School in Xinjiang, Shanxi Province crossed paths in Yuncheng, Shanxi during an inter-school exchange of traditional Chinese drumming styles spanning the centuries. The event was aimed at strengthening the bonds between the young drummers from both regions, fostering the exchange of drumming techniques, history and skills.
Renowned as a traditional form of music in Xijie County, Shanxi Province, Jiangzhou Drum Music captivates audiences with its rich and diverse musical expressions that vividly convey the images of humans, animals and objects. It can narrate complete stories through its melodies. Jiangzhou Drum Music was inscribed on the UNESCO List of intangible cultural heritage in 2021.
