Colombia defeated Jamaica 1-0 in the Round of 16 game at the FIFA Women's World Cup at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, on Tuesday, advancing to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Both teams were seen as the dark horses of the tournament. Jamaica had eliminated Brazil in Group F and Colombia had knocked out Germany in Group H.
Both sides prioritized defense in the first half of the game and, thus, posed little threat against each other's goal. Colombia set up a few chances via free kicks and corners, but Jamaica's goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer and the team's back line were focused enough to save the situations.
However, Jamaica's defenders misjudged a cross by Colombia from the left in the 51st minute, failing to clear it out. Catalina Usme received the ball in the right side of the box, shooting to score for her side to lead 1-0.

With one goal in their hands, Colombia were in better control of the pace and created more opportunities on the offensive end. Linda Caicedo kept breaking from the left to attack Jamaica's goal, but she lacked accuracy in the final attempts.
Jamaica wasted a great chance to tie the score in the 82nd minute. Drew Spence's header at the penalty point flew past the wrong side of the goal post and out of the baseline.
Leicy Santos missed the chance to extend Colombia's lead to two goals as her header hit the post as well, in the 86th minute.
Colombia will play England in the quarterfinals game on Saturday.
