China has just lifted anti-dumping and countervailing duties on imported Australian barley, which Australia calls "a positive step in the full resumption of normal trade" between the two countries. A time to rejoice? Not quite, reckons Australian independent economic and political analyst Daryl Guppy. He warns that ill-considered actions around Australia's defense and foreign policy can still undermine bilateral relations. He also notes that even if the trade dispute is settled, "it's not going to be the same as it was before the dispute started."
