Multiple cliffside stone carvings with a clear historical chronology have been discovered inside a cave in the village of Huzhou in east China's Zhejiang Province.

Experts from the Zhejiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology noted that the continuity and clarity of the chronological span of these cliffside carvings make them undoubtedly genuine and significant findings. Such carvings are a rare discovery in both Zhejiang and the entire country.

The confirmed carvings contain a total of 10 different historical era markings, covering the Tang, Song and Ming dynasties.

The cave faces southeast, where the entrance is situated beneath a rocky outcrop, measuring 1.6 meters in height and 1.4 meters in width. The cave's current depth is 20 meters up to a point of collapse – but its original depth is believed to be much greater.

Running from the entrance and extending to the back of the cave, the cliff walls on both sides are covered with a plethora of ancient and modern stone carvings set 1.5 meters above ground level.

These carvings range from standalone pieces to overlapping or superimposed later engravings. The character count and depth of the carvings vary, with some being distinct while others appear chaotic and unclear. Some carvings depict events, names, poems, and symbols, creating a diverse collection.

The collection holds considerable reference value for academic research into the history and ecological culture of this mountainous southwestern region of Anji County. The content and cultural significance of this cliffside carving group will be further explored and researched by cultural heritage experts and the findings announced in due course.
