China on Thursday urged the U.S. to immediately repeal the so-called "United States-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade First Agreement Implementation Act" and stop advancing negotiations on further trade agreements.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry made the remarks after U.S. President Joe Biden signed the act into law.
"China firmly opposes all forms of official interaction between the Taiwan region and countries having diplomatic ties with China, including negotiating or concluding agreements with implications of sovereignty and official nature," said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson noted that the U.S. side violated the one-China principle and the stipulations in the three China-U.S. joint communiques and contravened its commitment to maintain only unofficial relations with Taiwan, sending wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
