World Elephant Day is observed on August 12 every year, dedicating to raise public awareness on protection and conservation of elephants living around the globe.
Elephants in China can be only found in southwestern Yunnan Province where the dense rainforest nourishes a great varieties of species. These elephants are the only living species of the genus Elephas, the Asian elephant. As a mammal species with high intelligence, they often behave in ways that are relatable to humans. CGTN Nature's film crew went deep into the forest and followed a family of elephants in Yunnan, documenting their stories.
From August 12 to 23, CGTN Nature presents "Journeys in Nature: Asian Elephant Sanctuary Series," taking you on a trip to find out the mysteries of Asian elephants and their friends in this extensive stretch of rainforest in Yunnan. Stay tuned!
