China is ready to expand new areas of cooperation with Singapore and open up new prospects of bilateral ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday during a meeting with Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said China is willing to strengthen coordination with Singapore in multilateral affairs.
China is ready to work with the ASEAN countries to promote the steady development of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership and hopes that Singapore will continue to play a positive role in building a China-ASEAN community with a shared future, he said.
Wang noted that China-Singapore relations have provided positive energy for regional peace and stability.
In today's chaotic world, the only right way is to jointly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core as well as the international order based on international law, and the major countries, in particular, should lead by example, he added.
For his part, Wong said Singapore will actively participate in the process of Chinese modernization.
Singapore supports China's accession to the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, Wong said.
Singapore opposes the law of the jungle and power politics, and is ready to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability, maintain World Trade Organization rules as well as a just, open, inclusive cooperation frame, he added.
Wang is scheduled to visit Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia from August 10 to 13.
