An interactive venue that highlights the customs and heritage of various ethnic groups from across China has apparently become a topic of discussion in Beijing. This venue, located in Xidan, a bustling commercial district in central Beijing, opened its doors in March of this year. I had the pleasure of visiting this remarkable place.

To promote cultural diversity, the exhibits within the venue will change every three months, allowing different ethnic groups to showcase their traditions.

The courtyard is divided into multiple small rooms, each dedicated to a specific theme and featuring exhibits and interactive installations to engage with.

I began my exploration with Yangliuqing wood engraving paintings, a renowned folk art from Tianjin. These paintings are known for their symbolic meanings, vibrant colors, and intricate details, making them a popular choice for Chinese New Year celebrations.

I was captivated by the decorations in this courtyard, and was eager to try my hand at the Yunnan tie-dye technique. It's a wonderfully creative method to add a personal touch to fabrics.

I selected a piece of white cotton fabric and shaped it into a ball, securing it with rubber bands. Next, I submerged the fabric into the dye bath. While waiting for the colors to set, I enjoyed a few cups of tea. The instructor then removed the rubber bands and rinsed the fabric in clean water. Finally, my fabric revealed a unique pattern, reflecting my own personal style.

China's profound ethnic culture is well preserved here, but looking beyond the presentation of tradition and folk culture, you can see the diversified aspects of their lives. I was truly amazed by the arrangement of the sections that showed me the real life and spirit of all the ethnic groups of China.

In this room, a diverse range of classic works are gathered, documenting valuable history and the wisdom of different ethnic groups.

I had the opportunity to see a valuable collection of copies of "The Journey to the West." These copies were written in the characters of a Mongolian dialect that is at risk of being lost forever.

The preservation of ancient books is of utmost importance in the study and safeguarding of China's ethnic heritage.
